For Dunsop Bridge, (in the Trough of Bowland) read Bowland Bridge, and yes a great route up to Gummers Howe, and the viewpoint of the southern basin of Lake Windermere, and beyond.

The beauty of living in the Lakes, is that there are plenty of little gems to discover without the hoards of touroids found in the main areas.

This is one of my favourite rides, after the first long straight there is a fairly tight right, about 65mph. The next right is my absolute favourite, if you approach at about 70mph with the power on just before you enter the corner there is a bump which just unsettles the bike a bit and you go through with a nice wallow going on but keep turning in, worth do this run just for that one corner. There are two Ss past farms, so take it easy here, they are fairly tight but with the throttle open and with a fair sounding pipe the rebounded sound is brill. On past the Lythe Valley Hotel and in to some nice sweeping bends not over fast but you can get the bike over all the way if you have the balls but as has been said watch out there is a couple of jumps at over 50mph both wheels up. The rest is tight and there is the option of turning towards Dunsop Bridge and dropping down close to Newby Bridge. This detour road is worth the run just to see the view down on to Lake Windermere and if you want to go to Bowness turn right at the bottom and along the lake side only 50mph limit but nice.

Brilliant road. Virtually tourist free (they go via the Newby Bridge-Bowness road)...virtually free of any vehicle. Starts with some very good straights across open land (good visibility), with some excellent sweeping corners. Road gets tighter and twistier as you go - visibilty drops as well. There are a few blind turns which ar hard to read - usually over a crest/bridge). The road is pretty wide and the surface is good, except for the last stretch as you approach Bowness - here it is auwful. It gets very narrow at points, and is covered in gravel at points, sometimes on the exit of blind corners. Apart from this last stretch the road is highly recommended.

My route from home going south, 9.9miles of pleasure. Not many touroids either, even if the village is full of them! Also a shorter route than the marked ones into Windermere.

My favourite back way into the Lakes! Its not vert long but it is a little hidden gem, so its not that busy. The first couple of miles are short straights and nice little bends across a flat valley bottom, and then it turns into a rollercoaster through tree lined roads. But it does get narrower for the last couple of miles, and the road surface can be a bit dodgy there. Otherwise, enjoy!

Leaving the A590 at Gilpin Bridge the route starts with a number of long straights with reasonably tight corners - good vision and well fast. Once through the Esses near the farm at Row the road becomes more undulating and the corners more varied. The further you go the tighter and more twisty it becomes - watch out for the jumps near Crossthwaite. The final section into Bowness has a poor surface in places but is still good to ride.
